Focus on quality for employees and citizens

The municipal operations are owned by us citizens and it has a large and important mission for Karlstad municipality’s residents. It is of the utmost importance that the core business has the resources needed to be able to carry out its mission, that employees have good working conditions and that citizens have the opportunity to gain insight into the business.

Vänsterpartiet has long pushed, and will continue to pursue, the issue of a six-hour working day and away with shared tours. Working conditions should also be a part of procurements, where Karlstad municipality should not procure from companies that give their employees shared tours. Just like today, full-time should have been possible for our employees.

The work in the municipality’s administrations and committees shall be characterized by taking advantage of the knowledge and experience that exists among those who are in the business, employees and citizens, In this way we get a sustainable and strong quality assurance. Collaboration between the municipality’s various committees and with other important actors for the municipality such as the region, the police and non-profit associations, is another important prerequisite for having a well-functioning and qualitative organization that is for the municipality’s residents. In the same spirit, we want to save on unnecessary documentation and control systems.

Work for increased gender equality should permeate all work in Karlstad municipality, for both staff and residents. As an employer, Karlstad municipality has a great responsibility.

Many of the activities such as health care, care and school have female-dominated professions. Wage statistics show that women earn less than men. Employees must have knowledge of and work on the basis of gender knowledge. Through a motion from Vänsterpartiet, there is now knowledge about men’s violence against women such as violence in close relationships, honor-related violence and oppression and sexual violence.

Karlstad municipality must be open and the rule of law in all matters that are crucial for continued confidence in parliamentary democracy. We are therefore strongly critical of the incorporation that has taken place in various municipal operations. When the companies exist, there should be full transparency for the public. Municipal operations must be managed within the organisation itself.

We want to:

  • create schedule without shared tours with a reasonable workload, in collaboration with staff and trade unions
  • work for six-hour day
  • take advantage of the staff’s knowledge and experience and work for increased influence for the municipality’s employees
  • work for increased gender equality in the municipality’s operations
  • increase knowledge about men’s violence against women both in the municipality’s own activities and in the meeting with citizens
  • bring back LSS, adult education and elderly care under own auspices
  • questioning the bureaucratization of activities
